[002 - Hologram] It's like Deja Vu in reverse!

[Hello Knowhere, it's been a little while. Drift's generally good spirited demeanor seems a touch off-kilter today. Something's clearly gotten the swordmech in a state of awkward uncertainty.]

Sooo, uh. Has anyone, by chance....seen another one of my kind? But bigger, red chassis, blue helm, faceplate, tall audio spires. [As if Drift needed to illustrate that by putting his fingers to the sides of his helm; his own finials do that all on their own.] Sometimes looks like a big truck?

[AHEM.]

Answers to the name Optimus Prime?

[Because Drift swears he's seen the Autobot leader walking the halls of Knowhere. If Optimus had arrived, Drift would have heard about it before this, right? RIGHT? So was it a vision? Or has he taken too many hits to the helm? Maybe the last of the energon in his ration pack finally went bad? He still doesn't understand these powers that he--supposedly!?--has, and you know, how they're even supposed to work.]

Erm, on that note. Anyone out there with a time gem shard, if you've had an success with your powers, I'd love to hear from you.

No. Haven't tried, but that won't make a difference in the end.

[Sorry, but you aren't the first green alien lady in minimal clothing he's seen. You're also much shorter than the ones he's seen. The hair though, that's a nice touch.]

Because the last time I had the full gem it gave me visions whether I wanted it to or not.

But why would you not want them?

Because they're pointless and useless and no one believes you when you have them in the first place.

( Not that she's... speaking from personal experience or anything. )

I was in charge of keeping it safe for a few years. Me and a couple other people.

That sounds like an immense responsibility.

But wow. [That's the sound of several tons of relatability crashing down.] I had thought that might be the case. That's why I-- [maybe he's checking the feed settings, glad it's locked] --never told anyone about my first one. Back home.

Drax ate his, so don't kid yourself into thinking we were something we weren't.

( So uh. They probably weren't the most responsible people around to have it. But-- if you're looking to keep the Infinity Gems out of the hands of people who'd misuse it, say... a group of people that includes Reed Richards and Tony Stark, you really couldn't do better than the Infinity Watch. )

I had two or three. Most of them involved Adam dying, which was idiotic since he's done that a number of times and been fine.

( But then again, she loved him then. So perhaps it was only right that her unfocused visions were about him. )

.......ate his? [That sounds...unhealthy?] I'd wondered, exactly how one 'carries' these shards. Besides that option. [Which doesn't sound comfy.]

Adam? [Wait, they've just met, maybe that's a non-subject. Regroup!] I've, uh, had one. Like that. [though he can't but ask] .....did you say he's died multiple times? Not brink of death or suspected dead but actually confirmed dead?

[TACTLESS BUT RELEVANT, oops?]

He thought it was a 'jelly bean'. ( Hope you're feeling better about being picked to have a shard of this lodged in your soul, Drift, when compared to the custodians of the Gems before. ) Don't know, and the one person who might know isn't here.

( Thanos is always a second option after Adam, but he's not here either so Gamora isn't even going to think about the possibility of asking him to spill about the Gems. )

Someone from my universe. ( Understatement. ) That's right - it was kind of his thing; he never did figure out how to do it properly. ( A shrug, because she doesn't mind admitting to what she says next. ) It's not uncommon, I've been dead before.

He thought-- [NOPE, Drift. Remember the jello incident and do NOT judge.] Hmm, I guess I'll have to...experiment or something.

[Because where it's at now is kind of itchy-tingly and sure is distracting sometimes.

But that sounds like some of the understatements he makes about Wing.] Really? So, if someone died here, what would happen? I mean is it just a...feature of your species?

( Good luck, giant metal robot guy. )

If it was I wouldn't be the last of them, would I? ( Not that she cares; it's in the past and she was two when she saw them all murdered in front of her before being rescued. The time between then and now gives her some perspective. ) Don't know, not really in the mood to find out personally. But if you're offering? I can make it quick.

[He'll need plenty of it. The good kind for once, preferably.]

The last....? [URK] OH. UH. I'm so sorry. I didn't realize... [Oh yeah, that's what his foot tastes like. Bitter and metallic-y. OKAY THEN, moving on.] Ummmmm, I think I will pass on being a test subject for that particular experiment, assuming you aren't so offended to do it anyway. [HA-HA that's a joke by the way.]

( Gamora would enjoy his sudden discomfort if she cared. And on some level she does - it's always fun to see people squirm, and a girl's got to do what she needs to in order to amuse herself. )

I've killed others for less.

( So will she? It's a mystery. )

Erm.

[SO much going through Drift's head right now, everything from 'wow creepy-alien-lady-awkward-hot-but-not' to a very militaristic threat assessment because old habits--especially the kind that keep you alive--die hard.]

As much as I can relate to that...I'm also glad I grew out of that phase.

Though a part of me wonders if you could take me.

[Maybe a challenging grin there Gamora. Sorry, there are things that intimidate Drift but it's not combat unless you're a phase sixer. And given he once killed one of his own men just for disagreeing with him, that's not overly intimidating either. Maybe a flicker of sadness though, because he knows the kind of person you have to be to do a thing like that.]

'Phase'. ( She scoffs openly at the thought. ) Wouldn't it be terrible if that's all it was?

( There are things Gamora knows about herself - that she is the last of her kind, that she has died, that she has sworn never to care, and that she is exactly who she was made to be. 'Phase' implies she was something else at some point in time - and maybe she was. But that her had died when her race was slaughtered in front of her and Gamora doesn't want it back. )

There's one way to find out.

( Giant robot? She's fought weirder. )

If a few million years counts as a phase. [A shrug. He's come to accept his past, and even if his time as Deadlock is the hardest to overcome, he still needs to be able to talk about it to do so.] Depends on your perspective, and how much you want to leave it behind.

[The more weight your give it Gamora, the more it suffocates you.]

Do I sense some potential for a little friendly sparring? As exciting as death matches could be, pretty sure the one Cybertronian medic here wants me dead so saving the really debilitating injuries for fighting our true enemies might be better, eh?

Well aren't you mister recovered psychopath? But let me stop you right now - I don't need whatever it is you think I need.

( She doesn't want your help, Drift. And she certainly doesn't want your pity. )

I'm sure we could work out some sort of arrangement that works for the both of us.

Never said I was offering. [A twitch of his mouth.] I didn't want it either, when the time came.

[Not that he had a choice. He is glad for the outcome, but being a prisoner? Lessons delivered that swiftly are never without pain. And that makes him reluctant to force it on anyone else.]

I'm game if you are. Be nice to get some exercise.

You're assuming our situations are similar. They're not.

( It doesn't matter that she doesn't know his life story, her's is unique enough that she's wiling to make that call. And this conversation is not improving her mood; it's reminding her of the things she keeps tucked inside - her self loathing and hatred for who she is and the fact that she will never be anything but Gamora - the deadliest woman in the galaxy. )

[Wow, touchy.] Have you ever heard of the 'general you' versus the 'specific you'. Because the former is who I was talking to.

[She seems awfully ready to apply it to herself though. Hmm!! Obviously that's a sore sensor cluster, nerve, whatever. Which he should. probably. not poke at.]

You know this place better than I right? Know somewhere big enough and sturdy enough? [Preferably without bystanders.]
